Manifesto of the O∴ A∴

OA Manifesto: Eye of Ra

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

Manifesto

1. The O∴ A∴ was founded to assist those souls who are so prepared in the Great Work of Initiation.

The soul is latent until she is able to bring forth a magical ‘child’ or ‘star’ by which she is able to resurrect and restore the world to the divine image—which is called a Great Work. It is through such subtle relations that the soul releases the principle that is able to resurrect the whole individual. If this relation does not exist, then the soul departs and is effectively, as far as the person is concerned, non-existent.[1]

2. Any man or woman aged 21 years or more may apply to the Order for membership.

A spiritual exercise is performed on a strict daily basis for a period of nine months to one year. A diary Record is kept of the work and the observations of the practitioner, as according to instruction. Aspirants must study, learn and practice the rituals and methods of the O∴ A∴ as according to the advice given by their Guide in the Order. If the Record is approved, the person is invited to enter the First Degree of the O∴ A∴ by the ritual of Liber 930, Phoenix.

3. The Knowledge and Conversation of the Holy Guardian Angel is the aim of all working in the Outer (first five degrees).

The ‘Holy Guardian Angel’ is a metaphorical term that has long existed in the Western Mystery Tradition. The first intimation of this experience is also sometimes called the Vision of Adonai. Qabalistically speaking, the person has entered the Malkuth of the Order (as a Neophyte) and must ascend, via the paths of the Serpent of Wisdom, to Tiphereth. The spiritual experience of Tiphereth constitutes psychic regeneration and is sometimes called the Lesser Mystery. This ‘second birth’ is necessarily accompanied by, or preceded by, a psychic ‘death’. It is a preparation for full resurrection, which is the Greater Mystery involving the transformation of all potentialities within the individuality to the supra-human order.

4. The spiritual Law of Thelema declares that the universe is created by the division of an intelligent infinity into souls or ‘stars’.

In AL, I: 2–4, Nuit declares,

The unveiling of the company of heaven. Every man and every woman is a star. Every number is infinite; there is no difference.

And in AL, I: 29–30,

For I am divided for love’s sake, for the chance of union. This is the creation of the world, that the pain of division is as nothing, and the joy of dissolution all.

Through the process of division underlying creation each star experiences separate existence, undergoing suffering and death. Yet the division is that which creates the possibility of love. The neologism, ‘unfragmentary’ appears in the holograph MS version of the Book of the Law, Liber CCXX, I: 21,

And the sign shall be my ecstasy, the consciousness of the continuity of existence, the unfragmentary non-atomic fact of my universality.

Nuit is the ‘unfragmentary’ intelligence that divides herself for the sake of love. Hadit is the Esoteric Will, the ‘Knower’ that can thus never be known.[2] As declared in Liber AL, II: 3–4,

In the sphere I [Hadit] am everywhere the centre, as she [Nuit], the circumference, is nowhere found. Yet she shall be known and I never.

By the love of Nuit, the star realises a spiritual destiny that is not subject to the blind forces of fate or chance. The soul is thus able to overcome the forces of time and death and enter into the substance of the Great Work, which is the ‘immortal stone of the wise’, Lapis Philosophorum. The pain of division dissolves with the joy bestowed by Nuit—who created the world for that joy. A star may know this joy on earth as well as upon physical death.

5. Esoteric Thelema is a path of pure knowledge revealing the secret nature of each star.

The core tenets of Thelema are outstandingly simple. In Liber AL, I: 39,

The word of the Law is Θελημα.

The elevenfold spell is given in in Liber AL, I: 40,

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

The sevenfold completion is given in Liber AL, I: 57,

Love is the law, love under will.

Spelled in Greek, Thelema (‘Will’) is equal to 93, Agape (‘Love’). The word of the Law thus expresses both ‘will’ and ‘love’. Thelema is the law of love—the spiritual intelligence that unites and harmonises all things. It is therefore a law based on relationship. Love is the basis; Will is the magical means.

Come forth, o children, under the stars, and take your fill of love!

Liber AL vel Legis, I: 12

Love is the law, love under will.

The Manifesto symbolises the Five Points of the Star of Nuit.

Note that a Manifesto is ‘to make something clear or obvious’ and is typically a written public statement. However, as we are concerned with Mysteries concerning the knowledge of our true nature and purpose, our language frequently consists of symbol, analogy and metaphor. Our intentions and purpose will not be understood by reason alone. Any Manifesto is thus a wholly exterior expression of our true spiritual purpose.
